Am I missing something or Buying the wrong thing.....

Hey guys I am having a small yet frustrating problem. Car is a 83 Z28 that was originally a 5.0 HO with manual but has since been converted to a 350 and th350 tranny. Last summer when I had the engine all apart my oil dipstick and tube got bent up and twisted. No problem I will just get a new one I thought anyways. I have bought 2 dipsticks in the past week and neither of them were even close to lining up right. The first one I got was a MR. Gasket #6238 which is for our years but maybe not for a 350. The second one I bought off of ebay and it said it worked for 80 and up 305-350 engines with passenger side entry. Got it today and again not even close to lining up. Am I missing something here can you guys maybe point me in the direction of dipstick and tube part #'s that will work for me and just so I am clear the dipstick enters the block right behind the starter correct?....

Thanks for any help...

Get the lokar universal. Also the tube on my 86 is on the passenger side same with the 89. I am wondering if you have the trans dipstick confused with the oil?

In front of the starter motor
On '80 -85 with pass side stick ; , up on the side of the block by # 6 plug.
There is a raised casting on the side of the block with a hole for dipstick at top

On '86+ ; same position but lower down on the pan rail so a longer dipstick tube required

I ran into the same problem with my 92 when I rebuilt it. No aftermarket stick would work, so I went to my local Chevy dealer and they still stocked it, so I was in luck. Cost me $49.00, but it was worth it.

vetteoz when I say it is not lining up I mean the end of the tube is no where near the entry point on the block. mmadden55 do you have a part # for the lokar or jtsk for the gm thanks....
