ok... 1985 camaro.... changed tranny and valve seals and now carb... in park runs fine at any rpm... in gear when accelerate if i push down to far on the gas the car jumps, goes and repeats... did dent do it before tranny swap and is p@$$#@& me off at this point... sounds and feels like the exhaust valve is opened when piston fires and looses power... adjusted timing 20 and still did it and carb caught fire... 10 and ran ok but still jumped/shuddered and lose power... some times stalls but in park runs great... worried it could be something serious... please help me some one.... first comaro... missing my 86 cutlass with 737,000 miles....

 

also changed plugs/cap/coil /wires/and all the crap

 

What carb?
Did the motor get turned at any time b4 it got put back together?

 

600cfm performance series edelbrock carb .... carb was after the problem started because carb caught fire and stayed on fire.... bad float... new fuel filter and when swamped no it did not move during tranny swap or carb swap.... but i did not do the valve seals someone else did but was before that to.... fuel pressure fine mechanical pump.. need gas cap though cus doesn't release pressure well... so fuel flows fine

 

please if anyone can help.... give me some ideas guys.....

 

Play with the timing... Check for collapsed cat... Check fuel preassure and check all cables connected right

Verify plug wires are correctly routed.

Carb adjustment per directions.

Verify timing.

 

You saying it seems like the exhaust is not flowing properly makes me think valvetrain or exhaust blockage.

 

it can look like that... i thought i had a collaped cat but it turned out i just had to play with my cap in the dist to get a better iddle and engine was happy

 

Mine did this after we had head gaskets and valve seals redone. Car ran fine before we had the job done but after drove like crap! Would idle fine but when giving gas there was no power and kind of surged a little. Turned out to be a clogged cat! So took it off and gutted the thing (yes i know thats not legal pretty much anywhere) put it back on and ran just fine! Sounds like you fixed your problem but just incase anyone else is reading this is what i did.
