TPS issues,tried everything
Having issues with TPS. Have old one and new one. Must adjust it all the way up to get. 51 volts. Ground is good... Ecm sending proper 5V signal. WOT only shows 2.54v. Looks like PO had similar issue, but turned idle screw way out too make up difference. Reset idle screw to 500 rpm with iac and est unplugged. Couldn't do recommended 450 as car would stall.
Wondering if I have both sensors with a bad range. Or throttle body contraption that this is all connected to is bent (doubt it though).
Any recommendations? Engine is having many different problems, so this is why I'm messing with TPS in first place.
Do I need to try a different brand to see if range changes? Next one is 25 bucks more.

Re: TPS issues,tried everything
The PO said that his neighbors rebuilt the engine about 100 miles before I bought the car, but I'm starting to wonder if they got one thing wrong, and adjusted everything else to that "thing" and now all my systems are kiwampus. I feel like I'm really close to getting everything to sync up, but I'm wondering if my lack of some certain tools are hampering me. I set my idle screw to 500 rpm yesterday, but I don't know how accurate my tach is. That sort of thing.

Re: TPS issues,tried everything
Ok, and this is getting really frustrating. I have been through 4 different TPSs, from 3 different brands. They have all had different ranges. All of them have not been able to be set at. 54v without having to adjust the idle screw out. The reference wire for the TPS is getting proper 5V, the ground is good, I have checked it many times over. Engine grounds are good, grounding strap, battery, and battery grounds are good. Throttle body is clean, I can't see any signs of wear, no linkage binding, etc etc etc.
I'm pulling my hair out here. Why can I not get it properly adjusted?
Also, when connected to car and at WOT, shouldn't it read 5V? None of the ones I've gotten ever read that high. Even the one I have now only reads 3.9v.

I know this is going to sound like a strange question.....but, does this thing have a low coolant switch? either in the coolant reservoir or in the radiator?
I remember some cars had a problem with the low coolant level switch somehow pulling either the 5vref or 5vrtn down. since you have good 5vref, it could be the 5vrtn. just a shot in the dark. good luck.

Re: TPS issues,tried everything
i only have a couple of ideas....maybe.
dont get wrapped up on the tps,i think something else is messing with you causing a chain reaction....i would go back to step one....check your timing,is there a knock sensor to disconnect before setting timing? check coil,o2 sensor, cts sensor, fuel filter ,....grab a case of beer, sit down, write a list from from timing to sensors of things to check....good luck man...now i gotta go chase my lil engine demon
