oil change at speed lube left me with no oil help

I took my 350 tbi to get an oil change at speed lube before work.
Watched them put in oil because I lost an firebird to them forgetting.
Drive home, turn the car off oil guage says 60. Cut it on drive 8 miles to work,
Car started smoking thought maybe they spilled oil on the engine.
Get to work, check the oil its empty. Get them to look at it, and it's leaking
By the oil filter, squirting out when the engine is on. He thinks its a missing sensor
Any ideas before the look at it in the morning?

The old oil filter gasket didn't come off when they changed the filter most likely!

I would never have returned to the shop after their first mistake. Good luck with the car and the shop.

Agree on both above!!

Does sound like they screwed you Again, this time by not checking the filter gasket came off the block-- Yup, it does happen!! Always make sure it comes off-- have the OWNER come to your house to look at what his
" Technician " neglected to do!!!!

Thanks for the fast replies. But I can really go anywhere that won't overprice.
And walmart won't work on a car older than 95. But they are going to look at it tomorrow and I
Will be there under the engine lookin too, what else should we look for?

Maybe do it yourself from now on? That way you know it's done right and besides, an oil change on these cars is about as easy as it gets.

Fair enough. But like I said, these cars are super easy to do an oil change on. Doing your own oil change is a great way for a beginner to learn how to wrench on their car.

Re: oil change at speed lube left me with no oil help

Yea, agreed with everything already said. jiffy lube, express lube, whatever you call it, there all the same, and walmart isnt much better. Either take it somewhere reputable, have someone you know can do it do it for you, or learn to do it. Theres very few things simpler than an oil change lol.

They probably did leave the old gasket on tho, i had a friend ruin his fathers brand new van that way. Went <100ft pouring oil out all over the road, seized the engine before leaving the block. This was on a chrysler tho... XD

Good luck tho, i hope it didnt cause damage. Something to check tho, check you oil for coolant in it and you coolant for oil. Theres a good chance you blew a headgasket or warped your heads if the engine ran too hot or too long without adequete oil. If thats the case, dont drive it. If theres coolant in the oil, you may need a rebuild because the coolant ruins the bearings inside the engine, as well as other things, ontop of the possible warped heads/blown headgasket.

Everything on the engine is rebuilt with racing performance parts including gaskets made to withstand extra heat so hopefully no problems in the morning when they check it

Wow I would be so ticked, believe me they would be paying for any and all damaged caused by such a small easy job. I agree with the other guys, learn how to change your own oil. Sorry that happened to you. I have never taken my car to a oil stop shop. Hope they didn't mess anything else up. Best wishes

Since the issue isn't a gasket, I'd verify that the correct filter is being used. I like the AC Delco 'tall' filter PF1218.

BTW, if anyone discovers that a shop has left the gasket in place, discovers that the filter hasn't been appropriately tightened, or discovers that an incorrect filter has been used; and he returns to the shop, his privilege to own an F-body should be revoked for perpetuity .

Re: oil change at speed lube left me with no oil help

Well if your oil gauge is still reading I don't think its missing the sending unit. A possibility is either its loose or there's a block off plug right above the oil filter. I could see if the sending unit was loose but someone would've intentionally had to of loosen the block off...

Re: oil change at speed lube left me with no oil help

So the owner of the speed lubes owns 3 thirdgens and knows of this site. It was two gaskets on the oil filter like everyone guessed. He apologized, gave money to wash the car, wanted to clean the oil spill at my job, and put a quart of Lucas in my oil like I was going to do.

So he gave you some oil, soap and water? This is the second time you should get a new engine.
