trouble wiring engine up NEED HELP!!!

I'm new to engines and this web site..... i have an 86 camaro iroc 305 carburated. i bought the car with no engine and just dropped one in. when put in the distributor set the timing and got her running with a spare carb yet when i hook up a 4 prong connector to the base of the distributor the engine suddenly dies and i cant start her up, when i unplug this connector she starts right up but i know i wont have any type of advance/retard without something connected to the distributor..right???? is there any way to fix this or should i just get a distributor with a vacumn advance???

Re: trouble wiring engine up NEED HELP!!!

Maybe you have the wrong ECM for it (like the car had a 350 w/tpi, now u have 305 carbed, wont work.)

Could also be a problem with the comp

I dont think you can just drop in a vac advance dist, if the rest of your engine is comp-controlled and the dizzy isnt you'll have bad performance and fuel economy, it wont be running right
