1988 L98 cam question

Hey guys i just joined, been reading the forum a while and made the jump to a carbueretor from a TPI. However i needed to ask the experts whether or not my stock cam has the fuel pump lobe/eccentrics needed to run a mechanical fuel pump, year model is 1988.

Thanks for the help!

Pat

Re: 1988 L98 cam question

It should. 1990 is when the fuel pump lobes began disappearing off of factory production line cams in the small block.

I've worked on quite a few 87s and they all had a fuel pump lobe. The cam out of a 92 I have doesn't have the lobe.

Re: 1988 L98 cam question

Thanks for the info! Put a push rod in before checking the forum and turned the engine over by hand, seems to go in and out about a quarter inch, this is good news! dont need the electric fuel pump!

Thanks,

Pat
