No power to starter when jumped / battery good

I've had nothing by problems the last two weeks. The vats died, then I believe I fixed that with another computer and vats from another camaro. It started and ran fine, then a couple hours later it wouldn't. We had the enable relay jumped, and for some reason it just toasted that wire. Today we tried jumping the starter directly and it seems there is no power getting to the starter at all. We jumped the terminals and nothing happened. The cables are tight and everything. No hint of a spark. We are all completely lost as so what is going on. Any help? I need this fixed a week ago.

The main batt terminal on starter or the solenoid terminal ?

I Julped from the terminal that had the battery cable attached to the starter solenoid to the terminal next to it. I didn't see any other place that would make sense.

Okay, we found out that the starter is getting power. It just isn't getting a signal from the ignition switch. I'll try another one today and see if that works, if not I have a vats bypass on the way in case it's just that too.

Won't help if your problem is with
Ign switch
starter enable relay
or starter wiring from the Ign switch

If you can jump the starter ( key on ) to crank the engine and the engine fires up;
it is NOT A VATS PROBLEM

Had a similar issue not too long ago turned out to be the fusible link bet the starter and the ign switch. Repaired and she started like a champ. May be worth looking at if u have these links in ur car.

vetteoz - I understand that...I ordered that because I still have a security light and I want to install it after it's running anyway to avoid future problems. I need to shim the starter for it to crank.

Bigdeerock - I check all the fusible links and they are all intact.

Well it was just a thought. Btw if the covering is still on the fusible link and it looks good it doesn't mean it's good. So theoretically they could be "in tact" and still be bad.

Re: No power to starter when jumped / battery good

Hi,
I have similar prob on my 86 trans am lg4. Batt died. I pulled it out to bench charge it.
All charged put back in. Reads full. All lights work but nothing when I turn key to start, no crank no click, checked wires from removing batt, thought maybe something broke or came loose. Can't find problem

Re: No power to starter when jumped / battery good

In my case it ended up being the neutral safety switch. I jumped it and it started right up. Then I decide to go to the store the next day and the starter dies haha. Changing a starter in a parking garage is fun.
