2.8 Engine popping??

So i have an 88 camaro 2.8 5 speed and a few days ago someone locked up their brakes infront of me and i took a nose dive under their bumper at about 15-20mph. Ever since when I put the car in 5th gear at about 45 it makes a poping sound from the engine real light but enough to hear. The car is fine in 1st-4th with pleanty of power but once in 5th is has not power and makes the popping sound and its only makes that sound in 5th. The accident was real light and only chiped my paint so i dont know was might have caused this problem?

No i had enough time that i could get it out of gear and in to neutural. I dont think its in the trans because the sound comes from upfront.
