305 cfi rebuild issue.

i rebuilt my 305 cfi and have had nothing but issues. i put a comp cams 12-364-4 in it which is a 1.6 when my car was a 1.5. i put self aligning roller rockers and beehive springs. i am having a problem with a ticking but when i put the stethoscope to the valve covers i can't tell which its coming from. when i adjusted the rockers i put them at a full turn from zero lash and had it running horribly. so i backed them all off a quarter turn. then it sounded like a tick from cylinder 1 so i tightened them another 1/8 a turn yet it still sounds like a tick. its the same sound coming from all the cylinders so i have no idea where or what it is. i also hear a clunking sound from the engine compartment. i listened at the timing cover to see if that was it cause i put in a double roller. its not. nothing under the block not from in tae or heads wither. or water pump. can't figure it out. I'm wondering if its from the conversion from 1.5 to 1.6. any word would help please. btw there is also a knock sensor in the block but there isn't any codes or engine light on. please help thanks.

Did you look at the bottom of your valve covers for marks? maybe the rockers are hitting them. I had the same problem using aftermarket covers and had to shave off a little metal where they were hitting.

Maybe you put them on backwards? I did that once too lol.

well there isnt any marks on my covers. i called comp cams and the lifters i have are 858-16. those are short travel lifters they said at max they have to be 1/8 turn from zero lash and i just did that and they are still ticking. im about to do a lt1 swap cause im so frustrated. are short travel lifters suposed to be loud?
