Re: 454 swap shifting issues??

It a 700r4 electronic. I was thinking that it is because my ecm is not seeing engine rpm because I have installed am hei distributor instead of the computer controlled one so I need to figure out how to give my ecm crank signal

Re: 454 swap shifting issues??

The 700R4 is not "electronic", and it doesn't know or care what RPM the engine is running at. For that, you'd need a 4L60e.

To me, it sounds like your TV cable is not hooked up or functioning correctly. That, combined with the governor are what manage your shifting, both when it shifts and firmness. Since you put in a carb'ed BB, how did you hook up the TV cable?

Re: 454 swap shifting issues??

ok i got the old factory computer controled distributor and still same thing no down shifts and no tcc lockup. my cel is off now haha but still having issues.

tom 400 i have the tv cable connected with the holley adjustible bracket i have tried adjusting it but see no change when i removed my trans pan i see a few elecrical solenoids so i know that it has to be electrically controled or partialy controlled

Re: 454 swap shifting issues??

I have all the sensors connected iac, tps, cts, map, oil pressure and stock ccdis. I would like to get down to the bottom of this issue any help is much appreciated. I know i can get a built 700r4 that is not electric and will down the road but for now i want to have a good cruiser and i need lockup and a decent shifting rpm

Re: 454 swap shifting issues??

The computer has nothing at all to do with the shifting of a 700R4.

Are you trying to keep the computer just to control the TCC? Don't even bother, just pick a non-computer way of controlling it and wire it up.

Use the non-computer HEI, not the computer-controlled HEI.

Your computer is pretty well useless now, it's a lot to get rid of it than try to figure out how to keep it limping along for a few residual functions.

Those are to control the lock up tq converter. The shifting is not electronically controlled in any way, shape or form. Governor and TV cable manage the shifting. And orfice size (whcih I assume hasn't changed -you haven't put in a shift kit, right?).

Somehow, I missed this post, and those below it. Glad to hear you are making progress. I agree that trying to keep the ECM 'alive' and functioning just for TCC is wasted effort. If you can manage it, a simple toggle switch would work fine. You don't want to forget and drive it for extended periods in OD w/the converter locked however.

yeah i understand. I am still playing around with the shifting seems to get better the warmer it gets but when cold it still wont shift untill about 2500 but after driving it around alot it start to lower the shifting rpms f it ill just buy a monster 700r4 and worry about it all later.
