Re: waking up the 305
Youre talking about this hood, correct? http://media.photobucket.com/image/c...erHood0059.jpg
If so, that would be a pretty good ram air set up, more than enough for a 305. How built is the engine?
Is this car a daily driver? I guess you arent too worried about driving it in the rain..

and also as far as i know nothing is done to the motor, it has a high flow cat and a flowmaster. im just trying to squeeze what i can out of it. i get my license in 3 weeks and she has to be ready and i still need to find an rear end for it.
heres a video of what it sounds like i love it lol-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2qPGYlnfQA
should i be concerned about the rain?? thank you

Re: waking up the 305
Oh, im not sure if they use that hood on the crossfire engines, the TPI engine equipped cars have them though.
Yes you should be concerened about the rain, if you drive the car, especially a carbed car, through the rain and water gets into the carb, then the engine, you'll have a very bad day. Besides, it looks like theres only little slits in the top of the indentions? If thats correct, that wouldnt help much, if any at all. Its too little air flow. If you are looking for a cold air intake stetup for your car, i would recommend a K&N filter, and your choice of either single or dual snorkels with ducting down away from the engine. For reference, something like this:

That should feed your 305 more than suffeciently, you dont have to worry about water (if setup properly), its relatively inexpensive, better mpgs, improved throttle response, better high end power too. The whole 9 yrds. I would definetly do this setup before what you are currently considering.

Re: waking up the 305
I would go with a new exhaust before doing anything with the intake. Go with a set of Hooker 2055's which will wake up your motor quite a bit.
Re: waking up the 305
That hood looks similar to a 82 to 84 crossfire but a little differnt shape, does it have the oval ram assembly on the under side, if so you can activate it by hooking up a switch, the original was throttle activated they do leak in the rain around the sides of the flaps, you can seal them with thin weather striping,
have fun.

Re: waking up the 305
its not that exact hood its the SMC hood i believe i dont have a picture of it exactly. but the car already has a flowmaster and a high flow cat and it sounds real good. i bought it not knowing what it was then i read it was a pretty awesome hood so im going to throw it on there. i dont know how you make it open is it air forced or do i need to hook it to the throttle?? thanks guys

Re: waking up the 305
Back in the early '90s,i made my carb SMC hood into
a functional ram air hood; took a GM air cleaner lid that
was domed up in the center and cut the outer rim past
where the filter seats off, then built an airbox and
attatched to hood underside with silicone rubber-hole
in airbox same size as outer rim of air cleaner lower
half, foam rubber gasket in place to seal airbox hole to
air cleaner rim when hood closed
For the hood openings
removed the die-cast decorative plates and cut out the
openings, did not build any flaps-just left open.
this setup worked great and really let out the Q-jet
intake noise when secondarys opened up...
In certain cold weather conditions,i did have problems
with carburator"icing"though,so made some covers
for the openings to use during winter.
