Recommended plug wires for MSD coil

I got a streetfire (msd) coil, and i have platinum plugs. I know most people run 8.5mm wires, would 8mm be ok? Is the 8.5 just thicker insulater or is the gauge of wire itself bigger? Also, would the 8.5 really be necissary, or is 8mm suffecient? I dont want to spend $100+ on wires, id like to keep it close to $50.

Thanks

Re: Recommended plug wires for MSD coil

I have run a couple different types of wires while I have been using a 48,000v Accel Super Coil(the MSD Street Fire puts out the same) and to tell you the truth I like these Summit brand spiro wound core street strip 8mm. wire sets for $29.99. I have not seen any difference between these and the higher priced wires and they are made in America.= http://www.summitracing.com/search/Y...d=summit+wires

Re: Recommended plug wires for MSD coil

Hey man, thanks for the reply, very helpful. Thats a hell of a deal for performance plug wires too! Ill definetly be getting those. Thanks alot!

A side note here: I installed the coil yesterday and its running ok, but it doesnt seem right. Its making this vibration type noise from the drivers side bank, i cant really tell from where. Its not that loud, but is noticable. It seems to be slightly louder at around 2k rpms. I noticed I didnt put those silver brackets that come with it on, so im going to go do that now. It doesnt seem quite as quick on the throttle response, and honestly it seems a little weaker imo. Could that be cause?

For now i still have 7mm wires on it, but ill be getting those summit ones today or tomorrow. Could it be becuase the wires are too small for the coil to perform correctly?

MSD 8.5's hands down. This is one of those cases where size definitely matters, haha.

The MSDs are nice wires but he said closer to $50.00 so that's why I mentioned the Summit wires. They are most likely manufactured by a name brand company then badged Summit Racing.Order the wire # indicators like the ones in my last photo. There inexpensive and add a nice touch as well as being functional.

I agree with you, actually. I feel wires are not an area to be skimped on, though. I had the same kind you do in my mustang and they worked nicely.

Magnacore or Scott Performance Wire, sorry both are around $100 IIRC.

Yea, i think im going to give those summit wires a try. I dont usually settle for less than the best, but i just cant afford $100+ wires. Has anybody tried the streetfire 8mm's?

I didnt get to put the brackets on yet, i should be able to tomorrow. Do they actually make a performance difference? What do they do? (my guess is its something to do with a ground)

Sand where the mounting bracket for the coil mounts to the engine. The bracket should be the ground.
