84 Valve Covers......

So I got a 84 z28 carbed, and I assume that my valve covers are leaking because I a getting a lot of smoke and it seems like oil is dripping out of them and touching the exhaust manifold and causing smoke to appear, but anyways wanted to know if anyone knew how to remove the covers without damaging all of the hoses on the passengers side??thanks!

and I was also wondring fi it would be a bad idea to spray paint the covers flat black?thanks! or would i need a special kind of paint and if so any recommendations?thanks!

Label the hoses, take pics, then undo the hoses. There's no other way.

Re: 84 Valve Covers......

I just finished my valve covers about 2 hours ago. I painted them Chevy red-orange, first you want to get all the rust off or otherwise the paint will not lay on properly. I did this with some dawn soap and water and then some kerosene after that and scrubbing with some scotchbrite. It looks good and cleans stuff up. Be sure to label EVERYTHING. I forgot to and I was searching for about an hour for where things go. If you need the proper way to do it look in a haynes manual
