Ignition Issues
Hey guys. I haven't been on here in a while because my car hasn't acted up in ways I couldn't fix on my own but this one's got me because I've never played with my ignition. What happened was this: I drove my car to sears to get an oil change (the car started just fine) and dropped it off. I went to lunch with my brother and mom and when we went back to pick it up, I got the key and went to start it. When I went to start it, it would turn far enough to turn the electronics on but the key wouldn't turn past that to turn the ignition over. It felt like it was stuck so I started playing with the steering wheel to try and get it to hit some magical sweet spot I assumed was there. After 10 minutes I went back inside and asked the guy who worked on my car if he had the same issue and he said when he first went to turn it on to bring it in the garage it did that and they had to wiggle it for a while before it went. After another 10 minutes he was able to find the "sweet spot" by pushing in and out rather than trying to turn the steering wheel. I got it back to my house but now I can't get it to start again and I have no idea what could cause this or where to begin trying to fix it.

Re: Ignition Issues
If you drop your steering column (2 13mm bolts 1 on each side of steering column under dash) you will see 2 metal rods running to the back of the column 1 which is the one on the top is the one for the ignition switch and you need to adjust your ignition switch. I dont recall what size screws it is. just loosen them and slide the switch all the way forward and tighten. and turn key if it works problems solved. If not you will be needing a ignition switch kit. for that you will have to disassemble entire column while still mounted to install the kit.

Re: Ignition Issues
I had to get the u shaped tool to pull the cover off of the turn signal and ignition lock mechanisms but I'll be finished with it tomorrow. Thanks for the help... I'll let you know if it worked (hopefully it does).
Do you have any idea what would cause this kind of failure in the ignition lock?

Re: Ignition Issues
yea the lock plate removal tool. You really need a ignition switch kit and probably a new ignition switch
KIT: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...30_18383_2826_
SWITCH: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par.../N-ikevzZ9n859 (select if you have manual and tilt steering wheel or not)
