Alternator fan

Hi Everyone,
First time poster, found this site a couple weeks ago or so. Great site, a lot of knowledge here!!

Wanted to get some opinions on a little alternator problem I have. The little fan behind the pulley came of and wrapped my hood really good. Luckily that appears to be all that it hit. Left a good dent

Has anyone ever replaced this fan? Do they sell replacement fans? A friend of mine tells me to run it till it burns up.....sounds like a good way to get towed to me.

Would you try to replace the fan, replace the whole alternator, or run it until it burns up?

If I end up replacing the whole alternator, how many amp would you go with? I guess I would rather have more power capability than I would need. Looks like they go from 37amp to over 100. How many amp is plenty sufficient? I may add fog lights in the future, but that's all I foresee right now.

Thanks for any opinions!!
Mike

Re: Alternator fan

They have rebuild kits but since things probably got destroyed its a safe bet to get a new alt. best to get a 100 amp. Plenty of power and some on reserve. If you can get a lifetime warranty. Good luck!

And the cost of a tow is probably the same if not more than buying a new alternator!

Thanks for the replies!

Looks like I'll be grabbing a 100 amp alternator very soon!
