What Should I Set the Timing on my 305 TBI

Hello there,

I own a 91 Camaro RS with a 305 TBI. I'm about to replace my distributor. I know that tweaking the timing on your engine can increase or decrease the performance of your car. What should I set the timing on my 305 to get the best performance out of it?

Any input would help.

Thanks,

Lou

It's different from car to car usually. Advancing your timing a little bit can improve performance, but might affect how long your parts last.

How many degrees should I advance the timing?

Not much, just until the car starts to run a little bit faster, it's hard to explain. It won't run right if you go too far though.

Re: What Should I Set the Timing on my 305 TBI

It has to be set to what the computer is expecting the base timing to be. In the case of TBI, I believe that is zero degrees (with EST wire unplugged of course). Then with the wire plugged back in, the computer can do it's thing and add the correct timing for the situation.

Do some searching, some guys set it a few degrees higher and report possible differences.
