e-break problem >:(
so far i have been working on my 1984 trans am and fixing most of the miscellaneous part, wires, fluids, cleaning vacuum lines, etc. but recently i have noticed i need to depress the breaks more to get the car to stop ( it already has the throttle on the carb sticking open but that's not it) and when i depress the break far enough when stopping, it feels l the breaks are vibrating/ grinding feeling kinda. it was good on fluid when checking it over, but when i went to pull the E-brake it felt very loose and i have only used it when i put the car on ramps (it wasn't like this before) plus for the last few weeks i have heard a chirping from the back but soon went away (again paid no notice) i wanted to know whats wrong with it and why if anyone can help
thanks

thanks

Although this is not the brake forum, I'll reply here anyway. Ask a mod to move this thread to the Brake forum so you'll also get information from someone more knowledgeable.
You may need to adjust the ebrake cable to tighten up the slack in the cable over the years. Get under the car and check in the area near the driveshaft. The ebrake mechanism in the rear brake calipers (if you have rear disc brakes) may have seized from too little use. You will need to repair the calipers to regain use of your ebrake. Read this link that tells you how to fix it and also search the forums. This has been discussed extensively before:
