700R4 shift points with HSR

hi, I just installed an HSR a month ago. So last night I decided to try out the HSR at WOT, and I noticed that my 700R4 in drive kept shifting at 5000rpm while the motor was still climbing. How do I fix this problem? I was hoping the transmission would automatically shift around 5500-5800 rpm. I really don't want to shift manually on the 700r4 from 1-2 2-3 because I feel that it would hurt the auto transmission since it doesn't have a shift kit.

Search the 'Transmission' forum for how to recalibrate the transmission governor, which adjusts the WOT shift points.

I thought that the computer has something to do with the shift points

Only in the 4L60E version. Ours are based on the governor and the TV cable.

Could slightly moving the tv cable make it shift earlier or later?

Yes but does so by altering line pressure which is a good way to smoke a 700R4.

When I reinstalled the HSR, I never made any adjustments to the tv cable. The throttle body connection goes out slightly ( 1-3 centimeters) further than the stock tpi connection. My automatic shifts at normal, light acceleration are the same. I shift into 3rd gear at 25mph, and 4th gear at 35-37mph. I want to know how many people with an HSR adjusted the tv cable. The only cable i adjusted was the cruise cable.

i was playing around with my tv cable awhile ago and that ajusted normally vs just pulling tv cable till you hear 1-4 clicks shifted up in higher rpm wot and part trottle i think it was 500-1000rpm diffrence but you can ruin your trans by doing that from what i hear there was a article on tpis book about ajusting tv cable to get the best shift points for 1/4 mile i can take a pic and posted

I'd be happy to look at it. The trans so far is shifting 2-3 mph earlier on normal throttle. It used to shift after 5200 at WOT, but now it's 5000 rpm everytime.

Re: 700R4 shift points with HSR

Lot of people are saying a lot of things here, but there's only one right way to handle this. First, you need to know that your TV cable does not control WOT shift points. Assume your throttle body moved when you did your intake swap, or that the previous owner was a jerk and misadjusted the cable, because the cable only takes half a minute to adjust and could save your transmission. Follow the instructions here to set it.

The WOT shift points are controlled by the transmission governor. This is found within the driver's side of the transmission, near the back, behind a round metal cover. It is removable with the transmission in the car and takes only a couple minutes to pop out. Some transmission oil will leak out, so be prepared to catch it. The weights and springs on the governor control the shift points, adjustment kits with a variety of weights and springs are available from a couple manufacturers. It is mostly a trial and error method to set the shift points, this post should help you get started.
