Is this a fuel line issue?

I have an 84 camaro and I am smelling a faint gas odor coming from somewhere in the engine compartment. When I started the car today it started fine but then cut out on me twice while operating it. I opened the hood and noticed that on the left side of the engine compartment there is a line with a stainless steel looking nipple that looks like "bubbling" fluid is coming out of. Is this supposed to happen? Do I need to replace the line? Is it just missing a cap?

What is this part/line even called?

Re: Is this a fuel line issue?
That's the right side of the engine compartment. That looks like an A/C line, which would be unrelated to your fuel smell. No it's not supposed to be bubbling, and you don't have to replace the line, only the schrader valve, and yes it's supposed to have a cap.

You can find your fuel leak by using your nose or looking for a stain. I'm guessing it might be your fuel pump.

Check the fuel inlet to the carb and the rubber lines from the fuel lines to the pump on the block.

Thanks Guys. I will look into the schrader valve issue.

Is there an easy way to determine if I have a mechanical or electric fuel pump?

Says you have an LG4. Should have a mechanical pump on the block. Easiest way to determine that is to look-see.

Naf,

I'm a newbie at this. I've never worked on a car beyond oil changes, etc. Tough to me to know exactly what I'm looking at. I know my engine code is H and that I have an LG4. I just don't know where I would find a fuel pump on the block. Would it be easy to notice?

I believe it might be time to get a repair manual for your car. It sounds like you are eager to learn and a manual is just one of many ways to do this. Good luck on your project.
