fluctuating idle, vacuum leak?

i have a franken-camaro, bought it like that. its a 92 RS with a 350 tbi dropped in it with an edlebrock intake.

the idle fluctuates in drive with the brake on (at traffic lights and whatnot), and at a low rpm range(+/- 750-1100) it diesels out (stutters and sounds like a diesel) above and below that are fine though, and it runs noticeably rich (you can smell it in the exhaust). i had a vacuum leak that i fixed and the problem got much better, it was worse before. and i also just noticed yesterday a broken sensor/connector that looks like the knock sensor it is right next to. same color wire (green) coming out of it and out of the wiring harness at the same spot. are there 2? pulling my hair out with this one and any help would be appreciated
thanx

Where is the green wire located?
I would see if you can get a scanner on it and see what the ecm is doing. It could even be a bad O2 sensor from the sounds of things. Best to get a scanner and see what the ecm sees.

Both green wires come out of the main harness and have just enough room to get to the knock sensor. The one that is broken is not plugged into anything, but looks like the same connector that goes into the knock. The only code that came up was the infamous "egr problem" code. If I maintain the exact rpm for a while on the highway it will throw that code.

And the O2 sensor is new. So is the egr valve

Knock sensor wires are usually blue(but that does not say that it has to be or is).
Is the knock sensor currently plugged in? To confirm the Knock sensor location is in the lower passenger side of the block near the starter..
Also has this always happened or only recently.

One of the wires is plugged into the knock the othr is broken and not plugged into anything. Btw that is where I am, right above the starter. And it has been happening since I bought the car

Without doing some continuity tests to see where that wire goes its just guessing.
Could the previous owner put a larger set of injectors when they put the intake manifold? There are quite a few unknowns to determine what exactly could be causing the issue.

I have the exact same issue with a bbk/eldabrock intake/throttle body... but i beleve its some sort of vacuum problem.. half of my lines are just Pluged off or just hanging there, but the car screams.... 5.7l TPI also.

Re: fluctuating idle, vacuum leak?

The knock sensor and the fan switch use the same style connector and they are both in the harness that runs next to the starter. Just check your fan to make sure it comes on.
