87' gta won't spin the tires
Hey everyone, I recently bought a 1987 trans am gta, 350tpi,
Finally got it running, all new tune up items, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, oil, 91 octane,
But i cannot get her to spin the tires off a dead stop stabbing the throttle.
It has a posi rear end with direction tires on it, they look like corvette tread
(obviously not corvette tires though)
Anyway, could i have to much grip off the line? or is my engine jut tired?
Thanks Tim

Re: 87' gta won't spin the tires
Hey Tim and welcome!
You're not alone with this one. How many miles does the engine have? If you've got good tires then just be glad it's gripping. Another thing as well, the 87 GTA only came with 225HP at @4400RPM. That's not anything significant considering how heavy the car is. And that's off the showroom floor, imagine what kind of power it has now.
When I got my GTA, tires were like new, but dry rotted beyond belief. I could spin the tires all through second no problem. As soon as I put good tires on it was nothing but grip.

It's got 150,000 miles on it, original owner did take good care of it though, The guy i bought it from put brand new tires on it right before i bought it. Reading what you said i think thats what's happening tires just gripping. I kind of thought that was what's going on just wanted a second oppinion, thanks for the help!
