need a little help with my 82
So im new to this forum and this is my first post. I've used the search function and i havnt found anything i havnt already tried. I just recently bought a 1982 z28 LG4 for 1500 as sort of a project. WC t-5 out of a 92 and engine was rebuilt a year ago. It set for a while after that i was told. Unsure of mods i did a compression test and it read 200 psi on every cylinder so i take it someone maybe put in some flat top pistons. When i bought it it ran but had carb issues so i rebuilt the carb (q-jet) and reset the timing and it was better than before but it still had this issue where it start just dying and stalling out when you give it gas going down the road and upon examination i found a kinked fuel line so i made another line and put it on and it was alot better but still had sort of the same issue it just didnt act up until a few minutes after you had been going down the road a little ways or if you give it WOT and then it was the same way. so i got a new fuel pump (mechanical) and decided to get an external in line pump too and installed that down next to the fuel tank and it drove perfect for like a day and im having the same issues all over again. I thought it was clogged in the tank but i looked at it right after it was acting up and it had plenty of fuel going through the line up to the carb (transparent in line fuel filter). Im not sure what to try next. I guess this is just the perils of buying a car thats been played with by people who dont know what theyre doing. Sorry if this is in the wrong place feel free to move it if it is. If you guys could help me id sure appreciate it i want to get this car on the road

Have you tried running it with the gas cap loosened up?

yes i did and i made sure the vent was clear as well. at first it was generating a vaccum but i cleaned up the vent and got a new vented gas cap and it appears to be venting properly, and the problem is still persistant

OK it is running a little rich, the Quad-jet still might be the problem. Who rebuilt it? under neath it has I believe four areas were it needs to be sealed up. Sorry no pictures been a long time since I had one. They have a tendency to weep gas into the manifold, very common problem. Search the forum and you should find a thread that will explain better. They are easy to seal up with JB weld.

Appreciate your help. i figured out is really was the strainer as i had thought before. Having dropped the gastank and cleaned it and removed the strainer, the issue has been fixed, so im on to the many other issues with the car. Much abliged.

That is a common problem. I see so many people that like to let the tank almost run out before fill up.. That isn't good for the pump and the strainer catches all the crap in the bottom of the tank.. Glad you got it running.
