some 383 questions
Hello everybody, i'm new here. Great site and a lot of good info I have found here. I recently got a 91 rs lo3 305, Been wanting a camaro since I was just a wee little lad. So I now I got one time to start making it faster lol.
Proubly gonna put 3:73 gears in it, just gonna be a street car. Something to get out once in a while and burn some rubber with. Which brings me to my engine build.
Here is what I got.
I have a 350 out of a 98 chevy that I spun a rod bearing in, I"m gonna make it into a 383 I already ordered the Eagle 383 kit (crank, rods, pistons, and bearings). Got the performer rpm intake, and I have a 780 holley but I think it may be to large.
So I'm just wondering from you guys expierence what cam and headwork I should have done and if that carb. is way to big or not. Oh yeah I wanna keep it running on pump gas.

Re: some 383 questions
Buy SCAT, I have had nothing but luck with them. Eagle on the other hand....
Heads/cam depends what you are wanting to build, drive ability, and much more. It's hard to make a suggestion really. One guy might call a 4,500 stall converter behind a motor that spins 7,500 streetable while another might call a 2,000 stall spinning 6,000 RPM streetable.

It's not some thing i'm gonna get it and drive 100 miles away, or even 50 for that matter. I have the vortec heads so I wanna use them since I already have the intake that will fit them, Would like to be in the 400hp range. I also want a cam that has a pretty ruff idle(I just love the sound of them). A stall around 1800 was what I was thinking but I dont really know.

Try http://www.camquest.com/
That's CompCams Camshaft Selection site. Big thing is don't go over board on camshafts. A super lumpy one without the correct setup will run like crap. A peanut one like the OEM one in a built motor will run like crap.
Performer RPM Intake I believe is low to mid RPM so you're not going to want one with crazy lifts and duration like you would see on a Victor setup.
Pump gas is more defined by the compression of the pistons (which comes from your pistons, heads, and head gaskets) then figure in how much timing you plan on running.
Anyway play around with that you'll find some cool information. There are way too many missing variables.
Is this a Manual or Automatic? Which Transmission?
What compression ratio is your kit?
What heads are you looking at? Aluminum or Iron? What valve sizes? What CC rating?
Which type of camshaft are you going to run?

Yeah sorry about that you guys must have posted while I was typing before.
Do you have a 10 bolt or a 9 bolt rearend? When swapping gears plan on 500 to 1000+after you get parts and labor. Cheapest place here wanted 300 labor highest was the dealership at around 700 to 800 labor.
