Stalls at idle

Stalls at idle
1984 Firebird 2.8L V6
Warm weather
Car starts up just fine but once RPM drops to idle the idle gets really ruff and then the car stalls. It doesn't always happen. Sometimes idle is just fine and car hummmms. Even after driving and engine warm sometimes car stalls at idle. My mechanic says "just give it gas" well that works obviously and prevents the stall but it's not a fix to the problem.
Any ideas what's going on?

Re: Stalls at idle
How is you low speed (base) idle set? It may set too low so when the engine is warmed up like you mentioned, the carb throttles down to whatever the low speed idle is set to. the low speed idle is located on the driver side, front part of the carb where the throttle linkage is attached to the carb.
Hope that helps
