383 stroker build in 1983 TA
So here it is after 5 months of planning and questioning writing it out on paper and pricing it all out I have finally decided what I am going to start doing on my engine build.
The BASE
A 350 small block w/ 4 bolt mains.
The Next Step.
Sending it to be blueprinted balanced decked and all that fancy stuff.
At the same time this is being done it will have the striker kit installed.
I will be changing to vortec heads complete COMP Cam change out.
The cam will be an xe280 mechanical flat tappet Comp cam. Equipped with dual valve springs upgraded rocker arms, seals, valve spring retainers and push rods.
Changing to a dual timing chain setup.
I am going to be topping the block and heads with an edelbrock performer air gap intake and siding it with Hedman shorty headers and a true dual exhaust with cat delete.
A full port and polish on everything.
Atop the intake will be either a 750 holly dbl pumper Carb. Or a 800 cfm speed demon Carb. Still not too sure. So anyone with suggestions I am definitely interested.
Once this is all complete I will be topping all this with a supercharger. Not too sure which one yet there either. Again suggestions are welcome. I do not know too much in the land of superchargers and don't know where to begin when it comes to boost numbers and all that.
This whole build will be outfitted with a full Nos kit.
Any other suggestions on this build please let me know

I'm curious as to why the solid roller instead of hydraulic. Are you anticipating the power band to be that high?

I just prefer the mechanical flat tappet cams over rollerized. Less moving parts and more use compatibility and handling. Roller rockers aren't so user friendly they either work or the don't. Not to mention the fat pocket book that I'm gonna need to replace parts. Mechanical flat taps are all around easier to work with

I suggest making a new topic asking for a descent combination of parts... big solid flat tappet, 383 and vortec heads sounds like a fail and a half.

Bigger heads less carb
750 is plenty unless running it over 7k a lot. Even at that very little diff if any.

Hydraulic roller is the way to go, unless you enjoy a noisy valvetrain that needs constant attention.

I don't mind a bit of noise and oh well so I have to pull valve covers off and adjust them every so often. that's the joys of owning a v8 getting your hands dirty

I run a solid roller on the street.
with your plan, the heads prolly won't be big enuff to "need" a solid cam. You can do it, but you could have the same results or even better with a hyd roller.
I'd pickup a (running)block and heads from a 96-2000ish truck.. It will have all the roller stuff in it.
Just buy a nice hyd cam and install it in that.
I would also seriously consider way bigger heads or just stay with a rebuilt 350 (355)..
Also, You won't need any special oil, or oil with extra zink in it with a hyd roller..
