low oil pressure, misfire connection.?

Earlier this week my car started feeling like it was misfiring when I would idle at lights, checked the spark plug wires etc. Then I noticed that while idling the oil pressure gauge would drop low, between the red and the first line. When I put the car in neutral or in park, the oil pressure goes up and the misfiring stops. Is there any relation between these two things happening.? The misfiring/pressure drop only happens when the car idles at around 5-7000 rpm, Any advice anyone could give me as to what my be going on. My car has 184xxx miles, 305 tbi, 1992 camaro.

Yes there is a relation.

The oil pressure drops lower than it otherwise might, because with the motor not running right, the RPMs drop too low in gear.

Fix the misfire problem and th eoil pressure will magically return to normal behavior. I'd suggest starting with a new set of plugs, a rotor, and a dist cap.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I tried doing some research before I posted this and I read that if it was the oil pressure pump going out, then the bearings might be done too, I was hoping that wasn't the problem.

Fix what you KNOW is wrong FIRST; then maybe get wrapped around the axle over whatever else you find, AFTERWARDS.

I replaced the plugs earlier this year, but not the wires, so I'm going to get on that and the rotor and dist cap this weekend.
