Idle stop
Idle stop
I have a 1987 Z28 Iroc with a V8 305 in it, This morning I took it to work and as backed it into the parking space while in reverse it sputtered and cut off. It started right back up so I let it sit, the engine started to sputter again and I would give it some gas (in park) and the engine would start to idle normal for a little bit more until it sputtered again and shut off.
At first I chalked this up to the engine being cold (I only drive a few blocks). I got out of work, she started up and stayed idle while I got my music ready, drover her a few blocks home, no trouble at stop signs or lights but again once I parked I popped the hood and disconnected the battery (got a short somewhere and leaving it hooked up over night drains it, also I have the battery for a V8 350 which I thought it was until I did the spark plugs, have been told it should not make a difference). Once the battery was unplugged I got back into the car and he lights started to dim and then get bright on and off, the battery gauge went nuts and the car sputtered and shut off.
Any idea what the problem might be?
Thanks in advance guys!

Re: Idle stop
Your leaving alot of information out, is this fuel injected ? sounds like you have a bad battery or alternator or cable connection ground or positive side cable at the engine starter or battery or alternator stud. Most auto parts will check the charging system for free. If you battery is going bad overnight you need to check for a parasitic draw.
