Knocking sound after driving 2hrs HELP!
88 iroc 350 tpi. I just got the heads rebuilt less than a month ago. I took a 2hr trip and when I parked it to unload stuff and turned it on again I heard knocking sound comming from what I'm guessing the lifters. Idk know if it's my oil thinning out or what. Also my service engine light came on with code 36 but that happen first when I arrived to my destination. The knocking happened when I got back home. Could anyone help me trouble shoot this problem, I really appreciate any help possible, again thank you in advance.

i did about 5min of reading after i googled it and found that a bad crankshaft position sensor can cause code 36 and engine vibration/noise.

also a maf sensor error can cause code 36 but i dont see how that would cause an engine "knock"

Let's keep this simple. Googling things tends to get people in trouble.
There is no crank sensor on a thirdgen. Period.
Code 36 is a MAF burn-off circuit error... Possibly a bad relay.
Take your valve covers off and check the adjustment of the rockers.

Re: Knocking sound after driving 2hrs HELP!
Depends on what's knocking. Like I said, he should check the rocker arms first.
If there is a code 36, then chances are the MAF wire is dirty. If the wire is dirty, it's not telling the ECM how much air is entering the engine. If there is more air than it's telling the ECM, the ECM runs the engine LEAN. And we know what happens when the engine runs lean for a long enough time (BOOM).

Re: Knocking sound after driving 2hrs HELP!
After being at a certain speed for a certain amount of time, the ECM enters "Highway" mode. This mode leans out the fuel mixture, saving fuel on longer trips. This could be a part of the problem, and the other part could be that the oil thins out and doesn't allow the lifters to pump up properly, creating slack in the valvetrain.

The MAF was replaced 3 months ago. Where would I find the relay for it? I only hear it when the car gets warm.
