Vortec head compatibiity with the L69

Thinking about getting new cylinder heads for the L69.

Pricing out the World Torker and edlebrock heads is a little sticker shocking... let alone finding heads that have 56cc-58cc and 1.94 intake/1.50 exhaust is not that easy.

But I heard that Vortec heads are a viable replacement, but I think they need a new manifold. Truth be told, I think my stock manifold may need replacing anyway...so...

I would like to keep the Q-jet, but from what I understand about the Vortec heads is that I will need a new intake manifold.

So, what would be a good intake manifold replacement? Driveability and keeping everything else stock but the heads and intake is important to me.

Thanks!

Chuck

There's a Performer for Vrotec heads; probably the best option.

Also keep in mind that vortec heads are 64cc with a 1.94/1.50 valves. You can run 305 vortec heads but keep in mind they only have a 1.84 intake valve vx the 1.94. They are supposedly 58cc but are slightly different in design then there 64cc counterparts. Another thing to consider is that you will need new self aligning rocker arms.

Re: Vortec head compatibiity with the L69
i'm running vortecs on an L69 in my Camaro without any issues.. the chambers are a little bigger than the tiny little bore of the 305, but it is a pretty strong runner with no detonation.
i ran the thinnest head gaskets i could find for a 305- Fel Pro coated steel shims that are .015 thick- to keep the compression as high as i could get it without paying for any other parts or more machine work.
i'm running an Edelbrock 2116 intake with a quadrajet with a small little cam for mileage, and average 24 in mixed driving. might step up the cam over the winter to maybe try to squeeze a little speed out of it, but it's still just a 305 so my expectations will be kept nice and low.
