caprice 5.0 into 3rd gen

Running out of time.Auction the 8th with a 89 caprice and a 86.Both have 5.0 engines.I've got 2 camaro's that need parts.A 91 rs with the l03 and a 85 s/c I'm wanting to up grade to the LG4 out of the 86 if I can.The 89 caprice has a LO3 in it,but I don't think the 91RS system is the same.I've tryed to search and not getting much. The engine harness on the 91 is mostly fried.would the 89 stuff work with changes. The vatts apearse to have already been bypassed on the 91.I'm mostly sure the engine and ecm/harness can be implanted into the 85 without much trouble.Little help please,FAST

The harness' have the same wiring and pinouts, but i highly doubt they are directly compatible as the caprice is a different body line. It would probably swap in just fine, but the fitment may leave something to be desired.

The components are usually in roughly the same place, but often the differences in dimensions of the car itself effect how the harness is laid out (eg distance from ECM to engine and so forth). If you see one for cheap you could just pick it up and compare. If its not too far off, you can put it in.

thanks!I'm thinking of taking all the conectors and components off the caprice, and putting them into the damaged part of the harness and engine bay.I've got some v6 parts cars for other stuff thats not engine related.that way I will have a compleat engine for parts and a body to scrap out to get most of my money back.

If you can, try to use the harness in its entirety. At any rate, you will probably need to pull the entire existing harness to repair it. Not an easy task, but doable.

If you do choose to repair the harness, make sure you use solder to join the sections and put shrink wrap insulation over all splices. DONT use butt connectors, as they stress the wires, and allow water in to corrode the contacts.
