AC DELCO "PROFESSIONAL" = Chinese?. Anyone know?

Hi,

I'm curious about what mean "professional" version of Ac Delco products.

According its prices I suspect of chinese products.

Anyone have any idea?

Thanks in advance,

Denis V.

Almost all of it is made outside of the U.S. Country of origin should be on the box and sometimes on the part itself.

I don't even think Delco even makes anything anymore. They farm out chinese companies to make things for them and put it in a delco box.

check out this ad and read the fine print under "product features"

Yeah. Ive gotten pullies and stuff that are just repackaged chinese OEM sourced parts. Others from the actual line where they orignally made them at the GM plant.

Re: AC DELCO "PROFESSIONAL" = Chinese?. Anyone know?

Uff!

I'am running an Ac Delco battery made in Korea. 5 years running fine, but chinese parts were different:

- Chinese ignition control module = erratic engine stops
- Chinese temperature sender = Sends bad temp signal to ECM = fan don't start = overheating

My country has been invaded with chinese cars and motorcycles = low prices, low quality.

New chinese cars price start here @ CH$ 3.990.000 = US$ 8.200.

The first chinese car that arrived here 4 years ago was a Chevrolet (the small Chevrolet Sail, 100% chinese).

Re: AC DELCO "PROFESSIONAL" = Chinese?. Anyone know?

It depends what parts you are buying.
Batteries, Professional=US made, probably one of the best batteries you can get.
Chassis parts= most US made
Electrical parts are a wild card, they are sourced from China, Mexico, USA ect...

The Delco Professional line is marketed as a service replacement, designed to compete with aftermarket. It is not an original equipment part. That said, I have sold a lot of it over the years and never had any quality issues.

Delco used to mean it was a quality OE or equivalent part. Today, Delco is buying cheapo parts and selling them for a high price. Riding out a profit wave that's days are numbered.

Delco never made anything of their own- they have always sold parts made by outside suppliers. they used to be the exact same parts that were used on the assembly line, but that may have changed over the years for some things.

Re: AC DELCO "PROFESSIONAL" = Chinese?. Anyone know?

I had a run in with Delco tech over a fuel pump.I had replace the pump with junk Airco and when it went bad,I was looking forward to getting a Delco.I actually had to special order the pump.I get it all back together and it is a in tank pump,I was looking at the specs to see the psi was rated 15lbs less than the OEM.Delco tech told it didn't matter because it still gave me the volume requirement.I was on a verge of taking all back out,so I checked Delphi.Still the OEM psi and volume.
It sounded like they found a crossover part number pump and plugged it into the part I bought.Well I let sleeping dogs lie and just waked away from the whole thing.Swore never again.

NOT, repeat NOT impressed by AC delco these days. Used to be all I would put in IROC. Then everything started being made in China. We got TWO bad fuel pumps from AC delco before going with a Bosch.

Don't blame China, blame the company who's part it is that isn't maintaining/enforcing their quality standards.

Re: AC DELCO "PROFESSIONAL" = Chinese?. Anyone know?

Two years ago my shop (pepboys) got a letter from AC Delco about certain part numbers for AC delco plugs. The letter was explaining that many ac delco plugs are actually NGK plugs that have been re-labeled and that these certain numbered plugs would not be re-labeled, but only re-boxed, because they were slower moving plugs.
After that, I don't buy **** with the AC delco on it. I just buy third party where available. Generally, they put some work into their product. Especially fuel pumps.

Blame the greedy *** company for wanting more profits when a quality American made part could be made at a smaller profit margin therefore supporting US jobs and giving consumers a better product......................

With my experience, I only can say:

When the invasion of chinese cars start in your country, cars "made in USA" will be collectibles.

Bet you have trouble coming in from the rain ?

Keep shipping jobs overseas and there won't be anyone with any money left to buy their damn products.

Yes greeedy bastards like for example the iphone and ipads could easily be made in the US and support jobs but the greedy ****s are only concerned about maximum profit.

There is no way this is right, if you continue to defend it your parents should be slapped.

Top it all off these cheaply made Chinese auto parts are just inflating the profit margin and ****ing the consumers......there is nothing right about any of this situation.

I guess you told me. Hahahahaha...

Yup, businesses have to be concerned with maximizing profit. That's the obligation of the CEO & company to the shareholders. You can cry and stomp your feet all you want but that's the fact of the matter.

Re: AC DELCO "PROFESSIONAL" = Chinese?. Anyone know?

whoaru99 is absolutely correct in the summary of how many companies are operated. That's the Harvard MBA model for business management. Maximize profit in this quarter. Securely fasten your blinders to avoid all distractions. Remember to get your wool sheared every three weeks. Pay no attention to that cliff over there.

The formerly subscribed theory was to maximize earnings stability. Don't be afraid to sacrifice short term profitability for sustainability. That "old" model is why many offshore competitors are breaking it off in our collective backsides. They can see past the end of next month, and plan their business activities accordingly.

Toyota came in with a 7 year strategic marketing plan to introduce their Lexus line. They made almost nothing (comparatively) on the lineup in the first few years. They now own a solid share of a market where their name didn't even exist 15 years prior. That couldn't happen in a company where the accountants had to show a profit every quarter.

Ironically, some of the more successful and stable companies are not bound to that Harvard MBA model. Some of them are financial services companies (Price-Waterhouse, Fidelity, Gavilon, State Farm, and Ernst & Young) who are privately held and do not need to show a quarterly profit at the expense of stability of a strategic plan.

Together, these private companies grossed over $100B (that's billion with a "B") so far this year, up by 12% in a time when many "Harvard" companies are struggling to keep their doors open. They employed over 1.5 million people, all year long, so they could contribute to the economy rather than drain it off from the bottom. GM employed just over 207,000 people and scraped to earn just over $9B this year. And as I recall, none of the CEOs of these private companies with accountants from Northwestern, Purdue, Iowa State, Clemson, and Brigham Young had to take off their Harvard hats to hold them out and receive their share of the government dole to keep them afloat.
