"88 305 engine help needed

I have an '88 TBI 305 sitting in the garage from a 305 to 350 Camaro project I did.
I would like to put the engine in a shop truck that has a 6 cyl now. The 305 was in good shape when removed and I would just like to do a valve job and only replace what's needed, but I am no longer going to be hooked to a computer so I will make some changes. I'd like to add a small Holley, headers and possibly a mild cam (keeping the roller lifters).
I hear alot about putting an LT1 cam in it and would like to do that if it's a good idea. The truck will only see easy driving but I would like a little pep and sound.
Can anyone give me solid info and a part number for the cam?
Thanks

Don't know the part number off the top of my head but they're for sale used (take-out) from LT1 guys who are upgrading their cams almost every day. Aside from needing to drive the dowel pin further in to clear the timing chain cover, it's basically a bolt-in. Roller cams you can swap from motor to motor and reuse them if they are in good condition.

The F-body LT1 cam is the "good guy" cam. But even the milder B-body LT1 (Caprice, Roadmaster) LT1 cam is and upgrade from what you have now.

Another cam you might consider is a stock L31 Vortec 350 roller cam. It's milder than the LT1 cam, but still at least 10* more duration and with more lift than your 305 TBI "peanut cam". Definitely a bolt-in upgrade. Dowel pin is the right length, too- no need to drive it further in like the LT1 cam.

If it sounds like almost ANYTHING is an upgrade from what you have now, that's because it is. The 305 TBI cam is the most itsy-bitsy little cam EVER put in a factory roller cam small block Chevy. It's horrible.
