Another Cam Selection Theard
First off let me start by saying my LT1 swap is dead in the Water.
I've decided to just build up the L98 out of a 1990 Vette we have sitting in the garage. I'm in need of some suggestions for the best cam to go with my current setup or at least the Largest cam I can use with a Stock Converter.
Current Setup
Stock 1990 L98 Block 60k on bottom end Out of a Vette
113 Aluminum heads with Port work by High Flow Fuel Injection
Heads flow around 280-290 CFM
Ported Manifold Stage 4 done by HFFI
Ported Runners Stage 4 Done by HFFI
Ported Plenum Stage 4 Done by HFFI
1.6 Rockers
SLP 1 3/4 Headers
Full High Flow Exhaust
Stock 3.23 Rear end
Fresh Trans 700R4
STOCK VETTE CONVERTER
So the question is what's the Best/Largest cam I can ues with this setup? If ya need anymore info, I'll respond quickly.

Re: Another Cam Selection Theard
Best bet is to contact CompCams and let the experts determine what cam you SHOULD use because opinions on cam selection is like bungholes, everyone has one...
Also you will be limited by the clearance between the valve spring retainer and the valve stem seal and possibly the valve spring coil bind height vs the install height. Ex. if the install height is 1.7" and the bind height is 1.1" then 0.540" would be your max lift height. typically you add 0.060" for clearance.

Your stock torque converter is going to be the limiting factor here.
What do you plan to do with the car? Street/strip? Street only? Do you care if it has a noticeable idle?

Re: Another Cam Selection Theard
You can basically use as large of a cam as you want as long as the tune is good to keep it idling below 1500 rpm..... It just will be a dog under a certain rpm until the cam comes alive.
Largest i have been in and tuned on stock converter was comps 280xfi hyd roller, 230/236 .576/.570 113. Drove fine idled 750-800 rpms. But was sluggish, didnt begin to really wake up until 3500+. peak trq was in the 4000's range with hsr intake. Needed 4000 stall to work best at the track imo but ran ok for what it was in stock trq converter.
As said above what is your use for this car?
Also to note, 280-290 cfm is the most i ever heard from a 113 casting. What size valves? Did they epoxy or weld up the pushrod pinch?
What runners? All stock runners that were ported? Didnt think you could port stock runners much but they will restrict that motors rpm potential. Likely shouldnt go more than 224 deg at .050.

Mostly Street, Test and tune nights at the track and would like to have someone of a healthy sounded idle. Just looking for the perfect cam that will pull and not be sluggish.
