Solid motor mounts

The motor and tranny are coming out next week, and the car is going to the fabrication shop for a Ford 9" build. Incidentally, the motor/tranny is also getting pulled so the trans can get checked on to ensure all the guts are ready for the upcoming race season. I went ahead and bought UMI's solid mounts because I wasn't sure if I was going to use them or not (that and it got me free shipping from ColoradoSpeed), but I wanted a set just incase.. that and my motor mounts have 145,000 on them. Well, since I've got an excuse to pull everything again...

Experiences with solids? This is a street and strip car. I'm not looking for people to tell me "yes, do it" just because I bought them moreso personal opinions on the pros and cons... because otherwise I'll just buy new OEM type motor mounts and replace those instead. I hear these give a little more vibration, which I'm not worried about if it's shaking the car at idle or or something like that.. it's when it feels like you're sitting in an earthquake where it might be annoying.

It won't feel like sitting in an earthquake but you do feel the vibrations, they are IMO not noticably worse than poly mounts. I run solids in several of my cars

Re: Solid motor mounts

I used them on my daily S10 for 3 years and I didn't notice anything over the sound vibrations of the exhaust.

I'm assuming the car "throbs" a little when idling, but smooths out once you get going? A lot of people say that it's not a big deal, but I've never been in a car with a set so I honestly wouldn't know.

Any idea why solids get such a notorious reputation, then?

Skirkland, my exhaust is also fairly loud so I also imagine that I'll feel that more than the mounts. That's what I was thinking initially, anyways.

Re: Solid motor mounts

Kind of depends on how rough it's running and the cam, but really it's not that bad at all.

Hearsay is the reason of a lot of myths
