Hey guys im pretty new to the forum so im so sorry I place this wrong but I have an 87 camaro 305 TPI 5 spd, no aftermarket mods or anything just bone stock. Just replaced the fuel pump, water pump, alt, spark plugs and wires and a new battery. The car runs fine when its cold while im driving after about 5-15 mins of driving itll start acting up. In gears 1, 2, 3 it wont go over 3k rpms and as soon as it hits 3k it pops....LOUDLY.... and thecar gets bouncy....but if I drive it and keep everything under 3k she runs fine.... Please help out here guys im stuck

 

Check the fuel pressure when its acting up.

 

Whats the best way to do that while driving? I forgot to mention it only does it while under a load it wont do it parked....if that makes a difference

 

Oh! Also whenever it starts to happen my SES light and upshift light come on too and dont go away while im driving....

 

You should pull the codes and see whats its saying. Theres a more descriptive write up some where on here. But you can use a piece of wire to jump 2 specific ports on the ALDL connector under the steering wheel. Turn the ignition on but dont start the car. The SES light will blink once pause and then blink twice to signal that it is in diagnostics mode. Then just write down any other blinks and spaces after. Ex. 2 quick blinks and a pause followed by 3 quick blinks stands for 23. Then post your codes and usually someone will know what it means.

 

did you ever check your fuel pressure ???

I'm on the same boat just ordered a new distributor .. all my other parts check out ok

 

Alright guys ive been busy the past couple days....I have yet to check my fuel pressure but today I was able to attempt to pull the codes....am I mistaken or when you try to pull the codes you take a bit of wire and connect pin slot 6/12 together and then flick the key into the ON position and it should flash the codes at you? Well I did so an nothing happened....also tried after running it and it still didnt work....when the cars cold she runs fine, its only after running for a while that she starts to act ups....still yet to check fuel presaure thats this weekend.

Sounds like when 5 of my injectors had decided their time had come.
Couldn't bring RPM higher than 3K and after a while my carpet above the cat began to smoke.
The injectors were leaking fuel which ran into the cat, where it exploded and killed the cat so the exhaust fumes had nowhere to go.
When adding load to the engine, it simply shut off, SES light turning on and all.
Though I was able to see it was trying to compensate for something bevor it shut off. Was using my laptop for that.

Ok guys it was the fuel pump ... I did the trap door ..came out great ! Thanks for all your help
