Header plugs
Hey guys.... I got my 91 tpi camaro and I got hooker shorty headers on it. Well I wanna do an upgrade on the spark plugs. The only ones I can use are accel header plugs. I'd like to go a platinum or higher does anyone know of any other plugs that will work out other than the accels.?

Re: Header plugs
Are the plugs themselves hitting the primaries? Or are you just having a hard time getting a wrench or socket on them?
If the latter, then give this a shot. I bought this specifically for changing spark plugs, and its about the only thing Ive used it for so far, but it's more than worth it.

It's a harbor freight "thru-socket" set. $29, usually "on sale" for $19.
Took me 45 to 60 minutes to do them before, including having to go at them from underneath. But I can do all 8 in 5 minutes now. Easy as pie.

Re: Header plugs
Hey that's helpful any way... But my problem is the headers touching the spark plugs or they are so close I can't get wires over them.. That's why I have to use accel header plugs bc they are short

The AP145 will clear many headers.

Re: Header plugs
I dont like accel plugs, went thru 3 sets and finally found out NGK plugs are just a touch longer than the accel ones. Never had to touch the NGKs again after installing them the car finally ran great, I also have hooker 2055's and use fiberglass boot protectors to prevent wire arcing and premature plug failure.
I had to grind a slot in my craftsman spark plug socket and use an open end wrench on the socket to remove the plugs. I grinded all the way up to the hex part of the socket making sure it was in the middle of two corners of the inside hex part of the socket.
Hope this helps for the tool anyway

Re: Header plugs
The stock plug in my car was AC DELCO R45TS I believe.. The cross reference of that number is NGK 6630. They are not platinum, they sell platinums but im not sure if they are short also since ive never tryed them out or even thought about it. The 6630s are the same length as the Accel plugs if you remove the terminal that unscrews on the tip of the plug if i remember correctly. I had no problem getting them in and out with my modified craftsman 5/8 spark plug socket and an open end 3/4 wrench. They are actually alot easier to change than with stock manifolds. Invest in some good fiberglass boots or else your wire boots will start to break down from the heat and arc even if they dont look burned they will arc. I learned the hard way and also found that summit racing wires are absolute junk! I like my MSD streetfire wires (cheap and lasted the longest so far). I have no problems with the boots contacting the primaries but the stock AC DELCO plugs are WAY too long for headers. Hope this helps.

Re: Header plugs
This actually does help out alot. I bought two sets of wires when I did mine. ..I did that and used all the 90º boots instead of the straight ones. I got accel 8.8 on there now. I also got those fiberglass sleeves on all 8 wires lol the advice helped me out alot thanks man!
