Swapping out a cam...?How much it run?

Alright so I got my lil LG4 engine mods so far are my Hooker 2055 headers, 3" straight pipes, edelbrock manifold. They've helped it out but still im getting small hondas beat me its pretty aggravating so Im thinking about taking my car to a shop to do my cam swap...whats something you guys recommend....Keep in mind it's my daily driver also like how much does it usually run?

I got a mechanic Hopefully hes gonna do my clutch this weekend for $250 in labor plus whatever parts I want...Just wanna know a rough estimate so I dont get ripped off...

$250 is dirt as hell cheap for swapping a clutch.. Generally speaking, the average rate around here if someone "you know does good work" did it for you would be $750-900.

Swapping your cam without cylinder head work is asking to get your *** kicked even further. Don't even bother doing a cam swap until you address your cylinder head issue first.. or in your case (saying it before everyone else does) ditch that 305 you have for more displacement.

If your going to do a clutch and a cam at the same time, it's less work to take the motor out. Plus you can easily reseal it with new gaskets while it's out.

Changing cam in car pays 7 hours by the book.

I wouldn't change a cam in a third gen for $287. And I'm an amateur.

Re: Swapping out a cam...?How much it run?

I'd be leery of a guy that will do a clutch for that little, as well as potentially doing the cam for that.
Unless of course, he is doing this out of his garage as side work. But even then...

Keep in mind third gens are a relatively heavy car. Are you getting beat by built Hondas, or posers with nothing more than a fart can? I hate to say it, but you are really going to have to step it up if you want to beat the properly built Hondas.

If you're wanting power, you're gunna need to spend some money. The old saying of "There's no replacement for displacement" is pretty true, swap out to a 350 and start building from there. Get some 64cc heads, bigger cam, and if you really want to make power get a longer stroke crank and upgrade to flat top pistons. Also work on your gearing. Swapping to a Ford 9" rear end is a good start and with the posi unit you'll get better traction off the line too. It wont be cheap at all, especially if you're paying someone to install everything, but you will see a big difference in your cars performance.

I used to own a 305 camaro as well. I tried to modify it anyway I could to be like my dads corvette. It never happened. The best you can do with those motors is bore out the tbi, chip it, throw some headers on there without the emissions, delete emissions pump and a/c pump, and most importantly with that car, get a cold air intake. I feel that its by far the best upgrade to a 305 that ive had in my personal experience. It still wont drive like a 350, the torque will come all in the beginning, and it'll run out of puff at 4,500. I would do the 350 swap, you can find a good junkyard one to rebuild yourself for 300 bucks or so. Thats what I did, as well as rebuilding the tranny. This of course, all is possible if you can work on your own car. If not, prepare to shell out a couple g's on this car, might me better to buy a new one. And if you dont know anything about working on your car, maybe its time to jump in and learn.

P.s. Im only 16 and I already did all of this to my car. if you try pulling the im too young excuse that wont fly.
