Speedometer problems
Speedometer problems
I have a 1991 Camaro RS, 350 TBI, 700R4 tranny. When I plug the VSS into the tranny, the speedometer pegs out and the car dies. When I unplug the VSS, the speedometer doesn't work, but the car runs fine. I have replaced the VSS, the buffer, the ECM and PROM, and have traced all of the wiring and made sure it was all correct. After doing all of this, the problem still persists. Any ideas on what it could be? Thanks.

Re: Speedometer problems
What happens to your idle if you disconnect the gauge-cluster from the harness, and THEN plug the VSS into the tranny while the gauge-cluster is still disconnected?
Here's where I'm goint with this:
I wonder if a failure in the gauge cluster is feeding bad info back to the ECM, and causing the motor to shut down.
Its not like our "high quality" third-gen gauge clusters aren't know for mischief.
