new guy goodwrench 260hp

Before you guys beat me up I ALREADY own the engine!!

First post
To start now its a 86 trans am LG4 5.0 c arbed auto 700r4 with 2:73 rear all STOCK

My lg4 is very tired. So I want to know I have "own" a xe262, 2055 headers, 3" exhaust
edlebrock performer rpm intake never installed any of it YET

So we all know this is my EVERYDAY DRIVER!! not a show pony or race car..

IS it worth putting these parts on this 8.0.1 compression goodwrench 260hp engine??
Lg4's 416 heads will be redone and used too.
IV read the xe268 might be better then my xe262??
Springs will be changed and lifters and timing.

Again this is everyday street use. Just want it rolling again.
Since I have some parts just want to check

Thanks guys for helping out. Love this site

The 416 heads will help to bring the compression up a bit. I'd use the XE268, as long as you're getting the heads done you can get them cut for the extra bit of lift.

Re: new guy goodwrench 260hp

Since your planning on using the 416 heads the 260 hp motor you have is just a short block? If its dished pistons and you go through the the 416's to better suit the 350 (larger valves) then you should be closer to 9.0 compression ratio. (My math might be a touch off.) The xe262 may be a little big but I'm not too sure. The xe256 may be better for your plans. Or If you want more power the 268 could be fine too.

Re: new guy goodwrench 260hp

Ok this is my first built. With having the heads done should I get the 1.94 valves? and having heads cut that changes the head gasket size right??

If it's in your budget, go ahead and get larger valves. Head gasket size won't change at all.

The cc carb and distributor will work but it more than likely will need to be adjusted. They work great when they're set up for what they're mounted on. Do note that you'll need special tools to properly set them up. And if your block doesn't have a cast shut fuel pump hole then yes you can use your mechanical fuel pump.

You'll be ok on a stock converter, but you'll be happy changing it down the road when budget allows.

Re: new guy goodwrench 260hp

If you want to do something with the transmission than you can install a Corvette servo for around $25.00 and you will be amazed at what a difference it will make.
I installed the servo and off the line both tires will spin for a second then hook. It “barks” the tires going from 1st to 2nd and “chirps” them going from 2nd to 3rd. Thats both tires. Here's how to change the servo.=

As far as changing your gear ratio I went from the 2.73 to 3.42 and a Eaton Posi.Next to your engine swap it will make such a difference you will think your driving a totally different car. After you get the car running the way you want it I would make changing the ratio and adding the posi a top priority.
Even a DD should be fun to drive.I know mine is.
