Okay, yesterday my car started running like crap out of nowhere. I was on the highway when all of a sudden the engine just bogged down and sounded like it was about to die. So I pulled over on the side of the road and it started running fine again, like nothing was wrong, so I get back on the highway and it's running good as ever. I make it home fine. The next time I get in my car however, its running bad again, like the engine is missing and really shaky. I kill it, start it up again, and it's running perfect again. It seems really strange to me, because it's an intermittent problem. One second it's running fine, the next its struggling. And this keeps on happening. Does anyone have any experience with an issue like this? My mechanic thinks it may be a bad EGR valve.

 

Specs of vehicle? Any check engine lights? Error codes?

 

it is a 91 firebird, v6, 3.1 liter I think. the service engine light also comes on intermittently. I havent had it tested for error codes yet.
