oil sensor adaptor broken in block

Ok, here's the deal, I bought a 87 non running camaro for a bit of a project. Anyway the car was a wiring disaster for the carb, distributor and battery. I fixed the battery wiring issue, (I think). The carb and distributor weren't worth messing with so I opted for a edelbrock performer intake and carb and bought a high voltage hei, because the car won't stay stock. Anyway, today was supposed to be the day to start it, but I soon realized the oil sending unit adapter had broken off in the block. I believe I may have inadvertently done this when I pulled the original intake. My question is, the piece that broke seems to be brass, can I use an extractor, since its a soft metal? Or is a drill and re-tap in order? The second question is, is there another port that could be used for the sensor(s)...why is there two by the way? My 91 had the sensor by the oil filter and wasn't in the way of anything...much nicer design.

Re: oil sensor adaptor broken in block

Get one of the SQUARE type of extractors, should come right out. You can get what you need to replace it at HD Lowe's Nard's etc.; a 1/8" pipe nipple and 1/8" pipe street elbow.

Thanks, ill give it a shot. The nipple came apart from the elbow with no problem so I just need a new nipple once the broken end is out of the block.

The exact same thing happened with my intake swap. The threads stck in the block came out easily with an extraction tool. The part was difficult to find. Agree on the lowes plumbing dept repair. Only a couple of dollars.

Re: oil sensor adaptor broken in block

Thanks guys, the square extractor worked, took less than 10 min. The adapter nipple I got from O'Reilly's, I worked there and knew they would have it...just an fyi. Well after all, I was able to get it started this afternoon. Once the timing was close, it fired right away, kind of impressed for a motor that likely has a quarter million miles on it. Couldn't get it timed though. I hate the intake, but it was free. I just need something to block the heat riser port. My makeshift design lasted about 3 minutes.
