88 tbi oil pressure at 0, how to verify if its true

hey guys,
so i started my car up today, and the oil pressure said it never raised passed 0. i turn the key off, and you can see the needle drop a bit. turned on, it raises to 0. my question is, is there any way to verify by listening, or checking your oil level or something, to verify if its at 0?

in the past, the needle would get stuck, and i would bang the dash and it would jump up to regular pressure. idk y its not doing it now. so im a bit concerned. any help as always is appreciated

nevermind. seems as if the needle is getting stuck or the sender is going bad.

The senders fail. I'm having trouble getting any of the replacements I've used to last more than a few months. I know I'm running 80 psi but seriously. Replacement parts are getting more and more chintzy. If you looked inside of that big juice can of a sender, you'd see it's a very funky little mechanical device. It's amazing they last at all.

BTW, to verify actual pressure, install a mechanical gauge into the plugged off oil pressure port down by the filter housing.

The senders in these cars are terrible. Mechanical is a good option, but makes a mess if it ever leaks. Before you hit zero if you have hydraulic lifters, you will be hearing a lot of valvetrain racket.

since its efi, itll turn off the fuel pump. the switch also is a fuel pump cut off. i believe under 7 psi it cuts power. your car would start and shut off alot. stall at stops. etc
