385 ci build for swap into 3.1L bird (cont'd)
Hey everyone,
Last summer I started a 385 engine project for my 1992 firebird. Right now I'm still planning the build a little bit. Here's the thread from last year if you're interested:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech...ching-cam.html
Anyway, I'm planning on bringing the engine to a performance shop to have the short block built and balanced professionally. I guess my first DUMB question of this summer is: What ALL does the shortblock include? I have the rot assy including pistons, rings, wrist pins, rods, crank, rod bearings, crank bearings. I'm asking this because when I bring it in I don't want to leave anything out. I don't want to bring in the damper or flywheel to be balanced WITH the rot assy though.
As far as my limited knowledge goes
, that's all I can think of that might be better off for the professionals. Please correct me if I'm wrong though.

Your short block will be the whole rotating assembly, and if they are going to balance the crank then you'll need a neutral balance flexpate and damper Sounds like you have everything you need as long as the balancing is all internal.

Thanks. I just wanted to confirm. I'm going to try to get that done so I can start putting together the top end.

Would something like this timing set be adequate?
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hrs-94303
Also, what should I look for when it comes to a distributor? I see some going for 4-500
and other for under 100. I don't really understand the differences in them.
Can provide more engine info if needed
