Fuel pump went out!
So my fuel pump went out on the way home from work today had to push the car about a mile to get home fortunately I was able to get some help from some awesome people who I ran into.
The fuel pump was just recently replaced when I first bought the car about a year ago (its the reason why the P.O sold it to me. ) shouldnt it last more than a year?
What would be causing it to go out like this?
Thanks!
By the way the car is the stock 305 the P.O took out the TBI and made it carb.

How do you know its the pump?
You said it was replaced recently. Did you do the work?
Is the tank clean? Was the sock also replaced? Check the fuel filter?

Re: Fuel pump went out!
I am pretty sure it is the pump. The reason being is whenever I turn the key I can hear the pump priming, it makes a zzzzzz noise. I read it was the pump vibrating up against the lines. Also when I hit the pedal I smell no gas whatsoever near the carb.
I did not do the work myself.
I do not know if the sock was replaced.
I will check the fuel filter.
Thanks

Ok. If the sock wasn't replaced it could kill your new pump. If your fuel filter has been dirty or clogged. It could kill your new pump. If the gas tank is dirty (your car sat for months/years) it could kill the new pump.
So many variables. Ill be here though and ill help you get this right.

Re: Fuel pump went out!
If you had someone else replace the pump, I'd be willing to bet they put in an Airtex fuel pump, which can be bought for $30 bucks and are garbage, but they probably charged you for an OE pump. I've seen them last less than 1 year. Just something to consider I guess. I like going to the smaller shops that allow you to bring in your own parts for them to install, if I don't have the means to tackle the job myself.

Re: Fuel pump went out!
Yeah, I just did a quick search for an airtex pump and pulled up several, here is an example http://www.stockwiseauto.com/product...ource/googleps
Any luck with troubleshooting yet?

Re: Fuel pump went out!
The O.P is my brother & the car in question is actually wifes D.D.(My wife & bro carpool)
I'll b doing most of the work on this thing. The fuel pump was not $30, it was over $100 don't remember the brand. Its mounted where the fuel filter should be. A makeshift fuel filter was placed under the hood when converted to carb & I replaced this the sametime I replaced the pump.
I will keep you guys posted on progress. Thanks for the input so far.

I'm guessing you overheated the **** out of that pump.
The whole reason our pumps are in the tank is so the pump stays cool.
I guess my biggest question is. Why? Forreal.

Um. Why did you relocate it there? was the old pump left in the tank?

I did not choose to place it there nor did I convert it over to the carb. The previous owner did that.
It's worked fine for over a yr.... It turns out there was a short in the wire powering the pump, I patched it up & its running fine again. The pump is still good.
Thanks
