cam and dual chain gear help

I have an 87 350 with a stock full roller cam. Im trying to installed the comp cams kit with a xr276hr cam and it seems that there is far to much end play. I'm using the stock retaking plate. Some people say that the distributor holds it from the back to center the cam but others say that there is some plug in the back. I just know that if it ran how it is now I'm pretty sure the cam gear would be bumping and grinding into the bolts of the retaining plat
e. Any help is appreciated

Re: cam and dual chain gear help

Just noticed that the original gear did in fact grind on the bolts. So is this problem corrected by low profile bolts or will the end play still needed attention?

Re: cam and dual chain gear help

Those are not the correct bolts for the cam retainer, you need atleast .015 clearance for metal expansion.
