Locked up???

ok so We installed a new built 350 into a 86 camaro with a 700R4 .
It ran for 20 seconds and shut off just like it stalled,
Restarted ran for about another 20 seconds and shut off
now its locked up.
Can not turn the engine by hand, pulled valve covers off
push rods look good and valves seem to be fine. Spark plugs are out
Still cant turn the engine over forward or reverse.
drive shaft off and still nothing.
Heard no odd noises when it ran or shut off, It sounded normal.
the torque converter was the original one( was not new) car
and old engine(305) had 52,000 miles.)

Any suggestions??? thank you in advance.

Was the engine primed with oil before you started it?

Re: Locked up???

Unbolt the torque converter from the flywheel. If the motor still doesn't turn, you know it's something on the motor end.

What oil pressure were you showing when it was running?

not sure. once i started it i went to under the hood to kind of look over things.
and it only ran for about 20 seconds twice and just shut off like it stalled.

New engine Rule # 1

Always use a mechanical oil pressure gauge ( one you know is accurate ) under the hood and watch it religiously during the 1st engine run.

I hear ya. Ill be honest at first I thought the torque converter was screwed up causing the problem. but then i thought maybe the bearings were installed backwards so to speak. but whatever the case it will be done right this time.
