will it work

Here is the situation. I am getting a great deal on a 383 stroker. The 305 is about dead in my car and needs replaced. I currently have a T5 tranny and 373 limited slip rear. Will this combo hold up for a while until I can aquire a T56? I believe the motor is sitting around 375 HP and might be able to dial it back a little but the CAM is pretty agressive. I do not plan on drag racing it or going to the track to see how well it will do. More of a weekend and occasional driver as well as go to work car once in while. I am mainly looking to go to car shows and rallies with it.

375hp, stock tires and no track days I would expect a nice long life as long as the T5 is in good shape.

It was rebuilt about 20k miles ago. The PO never even chirped the tires. He treated it like a real baby. I would love to run it on the track once to get an idea, but I also do not want to replace a tranny until I have a chance of saving more $$$ and getting a T56

A lot of people are running similar powered engines without issues, keep the tires skinny and drive like a normal person.

Then you need to save the money and get a T56, before running it on the track. Less disappointment that way.
I'd leave it as it is, and continue to enjoy driving it and going to the car shows.
But as always, it's your car, your choice.

Re: will it work

If you drive it like a granny the trans will hold. If you drive it like someone would who has a 375hp engine you will kill the trans. They never even put a stock 350 behind that trans from the factory because it was rated below the torque of a 350 at the time. And in 89 it really wasn't a lot of torque!
