To switch to carb?
I have a 383 in my car that is still fuel injected with a stealth ram intake. I have been unable to get a tune for my car the last couple years and I havent raced it in a longer time. Im thinking about switching it over to carb so I can tune it manually and not have to worry about electronics. Yay or nay? Let me here you opinions.
Re: To switch to carb?
Unfortunately this is a big problem with these cars now. Nobody wants to or knows how to tune the ecu's, Unless you can do it yourself there isn't many options. There are a couple guys who can do a "custom" mail order chip if you give them your combo, but it's still never right. There are a few guys on here also that know how to. Maybe someone lives near you.
I would recommend either going with an aftermarket ecu like a fast and have a local shop tune it or switch over to a carb.

Who is doing the tune? The problem with the stock ECM is you can't tune it on the fly, you will need a flash burner & WIN ADL or other software to interface with the ECU.
You are local to me
did you Try Speed Inc. in Schaumburg?
or
ASSC (LRS Performance) in Lake Villa
Personally I really like working with Larry at LRS.
Otherwise why not just get an aftermarket system?
You only need the ECM and harness, most all of the EFI kits use GM sensors so it is plug & play.
There are options & advantages to keep the EFI and modify it versus switching to carb.

for example...
http://bigstuff3.com/wp-content/them...f/gen3sefi.pdf
This is a new ecm and harness that is compatible with your existing EFI sensors.
plus some major upgrades... Wide band O2s, data capture etc.
A shop like LRS can install and tune this on your car on their chassis dyno.

Highly recommend you talk to this guy

He will work with you to fine tune if you send datalogs
He did a custom tune for me a while back based on the specs I gave him and going by the datalog it is very close on his initial tune.

"cam with less than 224 degrees of duration @ .050 is possible with TPI.
For cams larger than 224 @ .050 will work with the speed density type 7730 ECM, but a different intake designed with shorter runners should be used.
This site will share with you what thousands of dollars has taught me.'
