CAMSHAFT, WILL IT WORK?

Say I wanted to buy a comp cam for my carbureted 350 that is a hydraulic roller cam with a 110 degree lobe sep and a rpm operation range of 1900 - 5400, is it absolutely necessary to buy a stall converter or can it be used on the stock torque converter from a 92 Camaro RS?

You will not be happy with the driveability with that cam and a stock TC and 2.73 gears.

I third that, you will be loading up the engine with fuel at lower RPM. Washing the cylinder walls with gas and surely an early death for your motor.

Yeah I noticed that and then I felt stupid. lol. But still, I'm looking for a pretty aggressive cam that will be a good street performance and drive-ability, for a 350 sbc, preferably on a stock TC, and on gears that could range from 2.73-3.73.

Re: CAMSHAFT, WILL IT WORK?

IMO, 224 intake duration will be far too much for a stock TC.
In my experience, even with stock cams, a converter change is worth more bang for the buck than a cam swap.
I'd go no more than about 208 duration if you're intent on keeping the stock TC. And even then, that number is dependent upon what kind of lobes you're dealing with. Example: Comp XE lobes will have less seat-to-seat duration for a given .050" number, so something like a Comp XE 206/212 cam would be acceptable for a stock TC. On the other hand, the ZZ4 cam in my truck (208/221/112), with slower lobes and more seat-to-seat duration, absolutely fell on its face after each gear change when I tried it briefly with the stock TC; but provides uninterrupted power with the Yank SS3600 in it now
Until you go with 3.42 or steeper gears, I wouldn't bother with a cam swap.

Re: CAMSHAFT, WILL IT WORK?

Gotta know that cams by themselves are NOT a independent part. That much of the cams need to be matched to the SRC.Here is the link:

http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/w..._compatibility

The SCR + the wt of the car + the stall + the rear end ratio + the tire size + the above all need to matched. All that and I am going to add in the next formula for your ref.

http://www.wallaceracing.com/eff-cr.php

These things are very important factors for it to work.

....
Yep. Another reason to be careful of too much intake duration.
That 206-208 suggestion is as far as I would go with stockish (~9.0 to 9.5) CR.
