problem hot start
problem hot start
Well i took my 91 3.1 camaro to the local GM dealership for a diagnosis, after the car sat 30 to 45 mins after running and driving it would give me a fit to start. their diagnosis was leaking fuel injectors which would make sense because i am loosing fuel pressure because when i went to put in new injectors today after the car sat over night there was no fuel pressure in the system " when i broke both fuel lines off the rail no pressure".Well after sitting about 45 mins again same problem.the car will start but i have to crank and crank till it starts and then it will race i guess till it burns all the fuel out of the cylinders ? that's my dilemma. The pump was replaced a few months ago with an after market pump by a local shop it lasted 2 days. the so called mechanic that did the pump bent the s#&t out of the filler neck where the cap screwed in it wouldn't keep pressure.so i took it back they put a Delco pump in but still left the filler neck to where it still didn't pressurize, about 3 or 4 days later i told them put a used tank in it or i want my money back,so at the mechanics cost he put a used tank in and now no problem with it pressurizing but still hot starting problem this didn't develop till at least 3 months after the new pumps . its going back to the dealer to see if they can figure it out. i bought this car new, no one has ever touched it till the the fuel pump went i guess that's what i get lol
any help would be great Thanks

Re: problem hot start
Two things you need to check first. Injectors and fuel pressure regulator. Pull the vacuum line off the fpr and smell for gas in the vac line. If you smell gas you need to replace the diaphragm in the fpr. If it's the original do it anyway. Also, what do you know about the injectors? If they are the originals replace them. At least check the resistance.

Thanks Base 91, today i put new not rebuilt injectors in i changed all 6.i will check the FPR as you said.everything is original to the car i bought it with 30 miles on it in August of 91.it goes back to the dealership either way i will keep you posted thanks for the quick reply
Re: problem hot start
Thanks again base,i did not see or smell any gas in the FPR line but i kinda sucked on the line on top of the plenum where it T's off to the FPR and i could taste it real strong so i will take your advice and change it anyway Thanks

Re: problem hot start
I had the same issues you describe. After fixing I ran Seafoam cleaner in the gas for a few tanks and it worked wonders. Engine runs great now.
